Hi, my name is Baljit Kaur.
I'm a university student and I love designing dresses. I love designing dresses so much that I recently started a small online business, called Chera, selling dresses, that I designed. I've been sketching dresses since I was a little kid and I recently found my notepad with the first few sketches I ever made (I never knew my innocent little hobby would turn into a life long passion).
I was very reluctant to start a blog because I couldn't think of any ways to entice anyone to read what I wanted to say. I actually didn't even know what to say for that matter. It wasn't until my childhood best friend came by one December evening and suggested ways for me to use social media to get my business "out there". She told me to write a blog and for some reason the idea of a "blog" stuck at the back of my mind. I have no clue why, maybe it was the way she said it. Later that month, my cousin bought me a book filled with sketches of dresses that Marilyn Monroe wore, and I was immediately inspired to design dresses for celebrities. So I came up with a whole list of celebrities that have passed on (mostly from the golden age of Hollywood) that I would have loved to design a dress for, if given the chance. These designs are purely my own and follow my style. I love designing classy and elegant dresses.
So, every week I will be posting a new sketch of a dress I designed for women who were fashion icons or just ladies who I think dressed very elegantly. Since Marilyn Monroe was the one to inspire me, my first design is for her.
I'm nervous about publishing my designs to the world. I usually only show my designs to family so this is kind of scary but here's to trying something new! Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making them!
